Annual Troop Bi-Law and Guidebook Review - 4/24 to 5/22

The Troop 854 Annual Bi-Law & Guidebook Review Period for 2012 opened on Tuesday 4/24 with the following email to the Troop.

The Change Proposal Document is:   2012-2013_change_proposals

Greetings,

With this email I am opening the annual 30 day review process of our Troop’s Bi-laws and Guidebook.  These two documents contain the rules and regulations that govern our Troop, as well as a great deal of valuable information for our Scouting families.

To review the current versions of both documents please see the Troop web site at:  www.troop854.com

Any registered member (youth or parent) may propose a change to either of these documents using the attached form.  The deadline for submitting changes is the end of the Troop meeting on Tuesday May 22nd, 2012.  Only changes submitted using this form will be considered by the Troop Committee.

As change proposals are received, they will be posted to the Troop web site for review.  The Troop committee will discuss proposed changes and offer/make modifications to change proposals at the Thursday May 31st Committee Meeting.  A vote on all change proposals will be conducted at the May Committee Meeting unless an extension is granted to further review any particular proposed item or there is not a quorum of eligible voting members of the Committee present at the meeting.  If a quorum is not present the available ballots will be collected that evening with the remaining ballots collected electronically until a quorum is reached.

Only registered committee members may vote on changes, a two thirds majority is required to make any changes to either document.

Please call or email me with any questions regarding this process.

Chartered Organizational Representative Erv Schreiber - Thank You!!!

Greetings,

Last night marked the final official Troop related activity for our Chartered Organizational Representative, Erv Scheiber.  Former Committee Chairman, and Holy Cross member, Scott Larsen is taking over the position from here forward and will do a fantastic job for all of us.

The Troop has been celebrating Erv’s 60 years in Scouting and 26 years with Holy Cross & Troop 854 over the course of the year, below are a few of the pictures from these celebrations, the Eagle retirement gift from the Troop that was presented on Scout Sunday and the thank you card which was signed by over 150 members of Troop 854.

More pictures will later be posted on the Troop web site as well.

Erv has been an invaluable member of the Troop and Pack Scouting programs over all of these years and will of course continue to be a member of the congregation at Holy Cross.  If you see him please wish him well in his retirement and thank him for his life time of service.

In recognition of Erv’s example of service the Troop has a new Ervin Schreiber Service Award which will be unveiled to the Troop shortly.

Thank you to all of the parents, leaders and especially Scouts that have participated in all of Erv’s various retirement events and gifts he has been very moved and is extremely appreciative and humble for all of the well wishes!

New Scout Crossover 2012

Greetings,

The Cub Scouts will be holding their Blue & Gold Ceremonies this month and it looks like we will then have around 20 new Scouts crossing over to Troop 854 at the end of the month.

The Troop will hold its annual Cross Over Ceremonies at Camp La No Che on Saturday 2/25.  Scouts and families should plan on arriving around 5pm, the ceremonies start once it gets dark and culminate with a great bonfire cross over!

The new Scouts will be at their first official Troop meeting on Tuesday 2/28 and while they hold their first Patrol Meeting we will also be holding a new parent meeting downstairs in the Fellowship Hall at 8pm.

Please help us welcome all of these new Scouts into the Troop 854 family!

Summer Camp 2012

Greetings,

Summer Camp 2012 planning is under way!

The boys selected Camp Ottari in VA during the annual planning conference in June.  This will be our 4th trip up to Camp Ottari and it is by far one of the very best summer camps on the East Coast!

The boys have all selected their preliminary camp program with the first year Scouts doing the Brownsea Island program, the second year Scouts doing merit badges and the third year and older Scouts doing a variety of high adventure programs and/or merit badges.

There will be several parent summer camp meetings held across the Spring and those will be announced as they are scheduled.

Summer Camp has a monthly payment plan from January to May, please make sure to see the Troop Treasurer to make your monthly payments.
